Bakhtiyor Anvarovich Islamov ((ロシア語:Бахтиёр Анварович Исламов), (ウズベク語:Baxtiyor Anvarovich Islomov)) is a prominent scholar, former diplomat and politician from Uzbekistan. A doctor of economic science, professor Islamov was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Russian Federation in 2003 and additionally to the Republic of Belarus with residence in Moscow in 2004. He was appointed in December 2008 as Uzbekistan's Deputy Foreign Minister, and in March 2010 also became National Coordinator of the CIS and the EU Strategy for Central Asia, liaising on technical assistance programs of the European Commission in Uzbekistan. He retired from his ministerial post in January 2012. In February 2012 he was appointed as a Professor at Tashkent Branch of Russian Economic University (REU) named after G.V. Plekhanov, (Uzbekistan). Concurrently, starting with November 1, 2013 has been working at the Slavic Research Center (SRC), Hokkaido University (Japan) as a Foreign Visiting Professor.() Previously after graduation from Moscow State Institute for International Relations-MGIMO (1977) and Post-graduate courses of the Institute of Economics of World Systems ( Moscow,1981) within more than twenty years served as Assistant professor, Chief of Press department (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Chief of International Relations Department (Uzbek Academy of sciences), a Leading researcher of the Institute of Economics (Uzbek Academy of sciences), Senior researcher, Associate professor, Head of International Development and World economy Department, Vice-rector of Tashkent State Economic University, Vice- rector of the Banking and Finance Academy, acting Executive Director of the “Ustoz” Republican Fund, Advisor to the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan. Has vast international academic and practical experience: as Advisor to the UN Office in Uzbekistan, head of UNDP project for macroeconomic analysis and training; Visiting scholar Harvard Institute of International Development (HIID) and J.F. K. School of Government (Harvard University) and National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), USA; Professor of the Center for North-Eastern Asian studies (CNEAS), Tohoku University and Professor of the Institute for Economic Research (I.E.R.), Hitotsubashi University, Japan. Participated in many International conferences in the Australia, Belarus, Belgium, Canada, China, France, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Korea, Malaysia, Moldova, the Netherlands, Russia, Japan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, U.K., Ukraine, USA Field of specialization: Comparative and Area studies, International Economics, Economics of Development and Transition.
